Atypical & Awesome, “The Lights Will Inspire You”

Oh, what an intense and amazing weekend in New York! So much to say, so many highlights it’s hard to pick where to start. We arrived in Brooklyn Thursday evening so we had a late dinner at Neptune’s Diner- one of our favorite regular stops. Friday morning started with coffee and bagels in Brooklyn and then a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge into lower Manhattan. Lots of picture taking and NY pizza for lunch. We explored the seaport and made our way back to Brooklyn to prepare for our next adventure.

We boarded the subway and headed to Coney Island. It was Phillip and I’s first trip there and we had a BLAST. Nathan’s hot dogs, the Wonderful Wheel, the pier- all of it. Phillip even won us a couple of teddy bears. Such a special night!

Saturday morning, we ventured to the Brooklyn Park Farmer’s Market which was fabulous. I bought an animal print skirt, focaccia, apple cider doughnuts, and peach slushies. I love farmer’s markets and this one was top tier with an abundance of produce and home-made items. It was all the things.

Then- one of the big events for us was scheduled for Saturday afternoon so we boarded the subway and headed into Manhattan. Phillip and I had signed up for an open-mic comedy hosted by Laughing Buddha Comedy at the Grisly Pear. We were warmly welcomed by the bartender and the mic’s host, Brian. Our sets went well and we received great and encouraging responses. Honestly, it was much better than we expected and we will definitely do this mic again!

We had a great dinner at another “regular” favorite of ours, Dim Sum Palace. It is really good and there is such a variety of choices. We definitely will be back when we head to the area for New Year’s.

Then- another “biggie” event was on the agenda. “Hell’s Kitchen” on Broadway. Oh my goodness. So fabulous. So touching. So inspiring. I can’t wait to crawl bed and listen to the soundtrack while replaying the whole experience again. It was sooooo good!

My feet are swollen, my bank account is empty, but my heart is full. Thank you, NYC- until we meet again ❤️
