Atypical & Awesome, “Ten to Thirty-Five”

It’s been a weird week. Perhaps even, “atypical”. For the first time in many years, I did not join Phillip and his siblings on their annual beach trip. Instead, I took a mini staycation and spent the week entertaining Autumn and helping her celebrate her ten year high school reunion. We went to the homecoming bonfire, assembly, and parade. While it was her ten year reunion, it was my 35!

I had not planned to participate but I was able to spend some time with a few former classmates. The highlight might have been hugging one of my favorite teachers (and people) ever and seeing many former students still exalt my dad- even though he has been retired over thirty years.

I live 15 minutes from my hometown. More than once in life, I had to return there to get through a few rough patches. I appreciate the experiences I was able to have and the help my parents have given my children and myself through the years. But it has never been home. I know that sounds harsh. Home is where your heart is and well… my heart is in many different places at once- usually, somewhere between here and New York with a few stops along the way.

Someone referred to me as “eccentric “ this week. Am I? Maybe a little…or perhaps maybe because I think differently and have a wider worldview than most in the area- I seem odd. Ok. I am and always have been and always will be. I was never made to be a small-town Homecoming Queen. It’s cool- I have my own crowns these days. See you in five for our 40.
