Atypical & Awesome, “So Far Away”

I said top three but maybe even top two. Carole King. My heart of hearts as far as songwriters. If you have seen me perform recently in songwriter shows- in person or online, you’ll note that I typically begin my set with a tribute to Carole King by playing, “So Far Away”. I had no idea, “Beautiful” the musical opened the same way. Until Saturday.

Phillip and I travelled to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival to catch the regional performance. I had somehow purchased front row seats and we were almost “on” the stage. Our seats just added to the subversive experience. I smiled for two hours- when I was not holding back tears. The cast was spot-on. The music-superb. The story- relatable. My songwriter’s heart came home motivated and inspired.

I wrote quite a bit yesterday as I am working on several things. Some technical writing, mostly creative. I had a small script to finish so I was able to complete it yesterday for an upcoming Halloween event. I also recently cowrote a wedding song (to be played after the ceremony) with a new friend and artist. The wedding is coming up in early September. Cowrites are scheduled this week so I’m hoping the muse continues to be kind to me. There are three cuts on the horizon so that makes my lil hippie heart oh so happy.
