Atypical & Awesome, “Football-The End-All, Be-All of Fall”
“Every Friday night you can hear the cheers from the stadium- that ol bass drum”. Boy, can you. Phillip and i went to a local high school football game Friday night for the first time in years. One crazy and amazing tidbit is as soon as we walked uo to the ticket booth, Crews Wright’s, “Big Deal” was playing over the stadium speakers. We screamed! How cool to hear a song I cowrote being played at a hometown football game- and it is the perfect song for the occasion.
We had a good time at the game and enjoyed being spectators. When my kids were in high school, we were selling Italian Ice at the Band Booster tent so we rarely got to just sit and soak it all in. It definitely was a different perspective.
Then, there was Saturday (yesterday)- THE day. Phillip has been wringing his hands and waiting for months. The start of college football. Football in the south (SEC football for you non-southerners) isn’t a hobby, it is LIFE. Oh. My. Goodness. Things did not go well for us (Bama lost) but we still had a good day starting with College Game-Day on ESPN and extending until after 10 pm with the Clemson/LSU game. We had Rotel dip and boiled peanuts and even had a small fire outside. We did all the things.
The air is a little cooler this morning but the sun did come up. We will regroup and get ready to do it all again next weekend. Go Gamecocks! And Rolllll Tide!!!
