Atypical & Awesome, “All the Things and Swedish Death Cleaning”
Up until now, Atypical & Awesome has been a running commentary of events going on on in my life- mainly from a songwriting and/or performance viewpoint. This is my professional website, afterall. However, I am feeling drawn to share more personal insights as I have been seeing life through a much clearer albeit creative lens lately. I have considered starting a new blog series focused on these thoughts but for now I will share these thoughts here.
Next week, I am having a “minor” but terrifying for me, surgery. It is much needed but still scary as heck. So, this week has been one of preparation. Getting things in order at work, cleaning the house, and resting my mind, body, and spirit. What does that really look like? Swedish Death Cleaning. I threw out four huge garbage bags of “stuff” from my closet and chest of drawers over the weekend. I have cleaned out all my purses, put up all the Christmas decor (except for one forgotten table cloth), and thrown out piles of unneeded paperwork. I have more to do but I must say it has really helped me mentally to “purge”.
I am wearing nice clothes that make me feel confident and doing things in the evenings to make my mornings easier. I am burning new candles, putting “stress relief” lotion on my feet and wearing fuzzy socks to bed. Sapphire and I are binge-watching Gilmore Girls and I am doing things to relax my mind. I’m doing all the things.
I’m praying. I’m thinking- a lot. I’m reflecting. An English teacher once told me I use the word, “I” too much when I write. So, I apologize ;) Right now, my mind is on my life- this incredible- often hard, sometimes sad, but mostly beautiful journey. I plan to share some special memories and thoughts on here in the weeks ahead. Thank YOU for being a part.
