Self-care. It’s a trendy term. What does it really mean? To me, it’s boundaries, saying no without apologizing, compartmentalizing different parts of life, and saving my energy and mind-space for those closest to me. It has been a hard week with some real heartbreaks. It has been a joyous week with some amazing experiences.
I have learned to find joy in odd places- well maybe not odd, maybe unconventional. For example, I love November rain. Not just the song- the full experience . Add new Thanksgiving pajamas, fall scented candles, and Sapphire in my lap and you won’t find a happier girl. I am also in the minority but I actually like our dark early evenings and coming home to something warm and comforting in the crock pot. I’m enjoy the pauses while I can because I know the “busyness” of the holiday season is headed this way faster than the Polar Express.
But for now, for a moment I savor…like eating that last piece of pecan pie at midnight while the rest of the house sleeps. I am standing in my pj’s with a can of whip cream in my hand, nobody can tell me nothing- this is my happy place. ;)
