Atypical & Awesome “A Numbers Game”

The music biz is pretty much a numbers game. At least for songwriters. Generally speaking, one can expect to get cuts on 1 percent of the songs you write until you are established enough to get referrals and repeat business. I average somewhere in the 3-5 percent range. That means for every 100 songs I write, 3-5 will get cut. I put together a rough playlist on youtube last night of 24 songs I have cowritten that are currently floating around youtube. I currently have about fifteen artists I have cowritten with that have not commercially released anything we have written- yet. I currently have 15 songs available for purchase (commercially released) on itunes, amazon, cd baby etc. Still no big hit- yet. I have songs out there in commercial country, bluegrass, gospel, indie, folk, and even smooth jazz and yacht rock. If you want lightning to strike, you have to dance in the rain! I sure am trying!
